Kitsap Community Solidarity Popup Training
April 19 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Backbone Campaign’s truck is rolling into town to support Kitsap “Artful Activists” who would like to Skill Up!
Backbone is providing Kitsap activists with a light projector to amplify our messages. Let’s build our community team to learn how to use the light projector and all of the other tools at our disposal.
We will gather with food! It’s potluck, so bring a dish if you can, but don’t miss this because you don’t have any food handy! There will be plenty for all ♥
The training will start at 5:30 with an overview of Backbone Campaign’s tools, and showcase ways they’ve been used, then a brief discussion and Q&A.
Then participants break into mini-groups to visit stations for hands on training in tools we can use for creative activism: Making a Banner, Learning Light Projection, Learning Digital Projection, or Practicing with Inflatable Props.
When we are done we will have built a banner together that we can use in an Overpass Banner Action on Saturday morning. As a community, we will decide on the message we want to create! Things change so quickly, so we don’t know the most appropriate message yet. Chime in here on the event page with your ideas about what we should say in our banner message!
The national Backbone Solidarity Brigade network selects monthly messages for light projection. These messages are cut into “gobos” (Go Between Optics): metal discs that the light shines through onto the projection surface. Backbone will bring a selection of gobo messages for us to choose from for our first real projection at the end of our training. Start thinking about where in Kitsap we should project our message for best visibility late on a Friday night.
Kids are welcome! They might even like to help. They will definitely enjoy seeing the inflatables 🙂 Tell us in advance that they are coming and we will set up a play corner for them with fun things to do and with volunteers to play with them 🙂
Join us. And please invite your friends. Resist Together!
