Kitsap SURJ Screening of 13th with Panel

This is the second of the two monthly meetings of Kitsap SURJ for the month of August 2017. Please note that this is a special meeting, not on one of the regular recurring Kitsap SURJ meeting dates (2nd and 4th Tuesdays monthly).

Instead of a second regular monthly meeting, this August, Kitsap SURJ will join with chapters of SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) across the country to host a *live* screening of the film _13th_, followed by a *live* screening of a panel discussion featuring
Malkia Cyril, Executive Director of the Center for Media Justice;
Grace Bauer, Executive Director of Justice for Families;
and Matt McGorry of “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Orange Is the New Black”

This screening will be held in the Kitsap Unitarian Universalist Fellowship building, located at 4418 Perry Ave NE in Bremerton. If you need a lift to the screening, please use this Facebook group to find out if anyone else is going your way and can help out!

As with all Kitsap SURJ gatherings, this will be a potluck. Please bring food/snacks to share if you wish to do so. No pressure. If you do bring something to share, please bring a utensil with which to serve it, and please plan on taking any leftovers home with you.

Kitsap SURJ holds two monthly meetings. All are welcome! We focus on skills-building, education, community organizing, mobilizing, and more as means of moving white people in our local communities to act as part of a multi-racial majority for racial justice with passion and accountability.

We work to undermine white support for white supremacy and to do so in ways that are accountable to local POC-, Indigenous-, Brown-, and Black-led groups and organizations.

Meetings are open to all. Newcomers are welcome. Kids and youth are welcome. Food is available. Often people are interested in carpooling; just ask! Check out the Files section of the Kitsap SURJ Facebook Group to read notes from past meetings and to get a sense of Kitsap SURJ.
