Climate Change & Salmon in the Snake River Basin

July 19, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The University of Idaho Extension in Clearwater County is offering: “Climate Change & Salmon in the Snake River Basin”.
.
While there has been a lot of news lately regarding Snake River salmon and potential dam removal, less has been reported on how climate change is currently influencing and is projected to influence, anadromous fish runs along the Pacific coast, and the Snake River in particular, with or without dams.
.
Last summer, for example, a persistent dome of high pressure in the Pacific Northwest created record high temperatures, with the Lewiston Tribune reporting water temperatures in the lower Salmon River above 70ºF. Climate studies suggest these events will become more common with climate change.
.
Lisa Crozier, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Research Scientist, will present the findings of the latest research on how climate change is affecting chinook and steelhead runs coast-wide and in the Snake River basin, climate projections portend for the future of these populations.
