Right to Health Web-In: Racial Capitalism and the COVID-19 Catastrophe
May 9, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
In the second Right to Health Web-In “Racial Capitalism and the COVID-19 Catastrophe,” we will begin to unpack what’s led to the appalling inequalities in COVID-19 outcomes across many social fault lines, but perhaps most glaringly along the lines of race in America.
The Web-In will be hosted via Zoom. To receive the Zoom link and meeting info, YOU MUST REGISTER!
Please register in advance here: https://tinyurl.com/R2Hweb-in2
This event is co-hosted by GlobeMed and the Campaign Against Racism.
We will hear from the following academic and social movement leaders:
-Dr. Mary Bassett — Director of FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, Harvard
-Luz Zambrano — Coordinadora General, El Centro Cooperativo de Desarrollo y Solidaridad (CCDS) East Boston
-Jaron Benjamin — VP Community Mobilization and National Advocacy, Housing Works
-Professor Ruha Benjamin — Associate Professor of African American Studies, Princeton University
The panel will be moderated by Priya Fremerman, GlobeMed Executive Director.
The panel will be hosted from 3-4pm ET and the breakout group discussions will go no later than 5pm ET. Join us for one or both activities of the Right to Health Web-In!
We hope this discussion will help launch state-based campaigns calling for a national Community Health Corps — a contact tracing program that will hire tens of thousands of out-of-work people to provide care and support to communities affected by COVID-19 and to begin to end the pandemic.
The Right to Health Web-In is an online gathering that drives critical health activism during COVID-19 social distancing. Web-Ins are equal parts political education, discussion, and community organizing.
The Right to Health Web-In is organized by a group of volunteers. If you’re interested in working with us, reach out at R2Hwebin@gmail.com
