Rubber, Meet Road: Meeting Washington State’s Transportation Decarbonization challenge in the Decisive Decade

Washington’s air pollution sources are heavily concentrated in transportation, where emissions steadily rose between 2010 and 2018, growing to 44.9% of statewide emissions behind continuing increases in jet fuel and on-road diesel and gasoline consumption.

Without significant movement on sources of transportation air pollution, there is simply no way to meet our greenhouse gas limits in 2030 and beyond. At the same time, this decarbonization effort offers many complementary opportunities to improve health and reduce congestion throughout the region.

How do we drive environmental and public health policy to keep Washingtonians on the go and our economy ahead of the curve? What are the implications and opportunities emerging from new programs that cap carbon pollution, invest billions of dollars towards reducing environmental inequities, and regulate clean fuels and zero-emissions vehicles?

We will explore these topics with Senate Transportation Chair Steve Hobbs (44th District) and subject-matter experts to learn more about the rapidly evolving landscape for transportation decarbonization in Washington state.
