Tacoma Climate Solidarity Event

We are planning a Tacoma Climate Solidarity Event for Thursday, December 10 at 1:00 pm, at which time we will hold Tacoma City Council accountable for the promises they made when passing a Climate Emergency Resolution last year. December 10th is the anniversary of their resolution. The action will involve deploying hundreds of pairs of shoes to represent demonstrators (in a time of COVID-19). This will be displayed along the street and sidewalk in front of Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market Street. There is also a Remote Solidarity Event taking place on social media for all of your community to participate in. #253ClimateSolidarity
This is an opportunity for many groups in Tacoma to come together and make our voices heard – we demand action! We recognize that we live and organize on Puyallup Tribal land. We recognize that the climate crisis affects Black, Indigenous and communities of color disproportionately. We recognize that our movements are working tirelessly to fight injustice in all its forms. We can’t afford to do this work separately. The climate movement is a movement of movements: climate justice is racial justice, food justice, economic justice, housing justice, immigrant justice, Indigenous justice!

Join us by demonstrating remotely on social media. Thursday, December 10th, invite your friends, family and community to line up shoes and protest signs in a front yard, on a street curb, at a local park, small business, church or community center you are connected to. Take a ton of photos and be sure to post on social media, broadcasting your vision for climate justice in Tacoma. #253climatesolidarity This is your future and your voice is powerful!
