Get ready for 2023. The December Climate Conference will get you prepared to jump into action with a new Congress. Learn about CCL’s expanded policy agenda: what the new areas are, why we need them, and how they’ll help us build the bridges we need to pass big solutions like a price on carbon. Leave the conference armed with ideas and materials to breathe new life into your local climate advocacy in the new year.

Add a Sunday Seminar

Our Sunday Seminars vary in length from 1.5 – 2.5 hours, taking our attendees deeper into material than a standard conference breakout. There will be four seminars to choose from.

1. Climate Advocate Training Workshop (2.5 hours)

This workshop will help newer volunteers (and seasoned volunteers who want a refresher) understand CCL’s method and vision and inspire you to find your role so you can hit the ground running. You’ll even have a chance to participate in a mock lobby meeting so you are well prepared for Lobby Week (if you are participating). In this interactive workshop you will:

• Learn the basics of becoming an effective climate advocate through review of the CCL’s structure, mission, purpose and methodology of creating political will
• Practice how to appeal to the best in others and build common ground
• Review CCL’s legislative strategy and an initial overview of the climate solutions we support
• Learn how to build constructive relationships with elected representatives and practice our lobbying methods

2. Inflation Reduction Act details and implementation (2 hours)

In this seminar, CCL Research Coordinator Dana Nuccitelli will review the content of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, how it can help a variety of different communities, and how it relates to clean energy permitting reform. Then, Dane County, Wisconsin Office of Energy & Climate Change Director Kathy Kuntz will share how states, cities, and other local municipalities can take advantage of the programs in the IRA. Some of these programs include tax credits and rebates, and how the IRA has the potential to transform the efforts of local governments. Be sure to bring your questions!

3. Diverse Community Building and Retention of Volunteers: Laying the foundations and building a culture that is healthy and inclusive (2 hours)

This workshop will support participants in gaining a deeper understanding of their role in diversity and inclusion efforts and cultivating chapter culture. Participants will also acquire the necessary knowledge and communication tools to actively build and foster diverse, inclusive communities within their chapters and communities at large. This workshop will be led by CCL National Chapter Development Intern Danielle Whyte, CCL Diversity & Inclusion Program Coordinator Patricia Rubio, and CCL Diversity & Inclusion Director Karina Ramírez.

4. Conservative climate action pillars (1.5 hours)

Join ClearPath and ClearPath Action CEO Rich Powell for a comprehensive look at conservative climate action pillars that make the energy sector cleaner and more reliable, while making our economy stronger. Rich will also review messages that resonate with conservatives in order to communicate better and move the conversation forward in your community and with members of Congress.
