Voices of the Majority-3/8/18

About Voices of the Majority. Previous posts: here. Updated 3/8/18.

Happy International Women’s Day!
Please join us tomorrow between 4:30 and 6:30 at OfficeXpats, upstairs in the Pavilion on Madison Avenue.
We will:
  • Continue our push to drive momentum for common sense gun reforms
    • Write to support Emma Gonzalez, David Hogg, Sarah Chadwick and the many other Florida students leading the movement
    • Write to thank the CEO of Dick’s (address: Edward Stack, Dick’s Sporting Goods, 345 Court Street, Coraopolis, PA, 15108) and other stand-up companies
    • Write letters to the editor to shine a light on this fact: A new report by the National Institute on Money in State Politics found that Washington state candidates led the country in National Rifle Association contributions.
We will have a visitor from the group, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. She likely will have good info for us and tips on how to be even more effective.
Last week Bainbridge Island City Council Representative Matt Tirman joined us for a fascinating and productive discussion about local issues, as well as the influence that groups such as ours can have on issues at the local, state and federal levels. We’ll share some notes from the session in a separate email.
Meanwhile Matt encourages us to support WA House Bill 2437:

And to sign up for his newsletter. Email Matt to ask to be added to his list:
And Holly invites us to the Saturday night movie “Plane Truths”, about combat training on Whidbey Island, along with a discussion of the military’s plan to train on Bainbridge Island:
And on Tuesday night the Peace Cafe will talk gun control and student activism:
