Voices of the Majority-8/11/17

This Friday at 4:30 Rich will host the group, at the T&C cafe — not at our usual location at OfficeXpats. (Next Friday we’ll be back at Xpats.)
Bring a friend and make some calls / write some cards.

Meanwhile here are 3 things you can do TODAY:

1 — Go to regulations.gov and post your comment (click on the “comment” button in the upper-right corner of the page) in opposition to Scott Pruitt’s proposed two-year delay of critical leak detection & repair requirements for the oil & gas industry. The deadline for public comments is midnight tonight.

These EPA requirements protect Americans from dangerous methane, smog-forming volatile organic compounds, and toxic and carcinogenic air pollutants like benzene. These common-sense safeguards are highly cost-effective, leveraging widely used technologies and best practices that are already required in several energy-producing states. They were also developed through extensive public input and years of agency deliberation. There is no basis for the EPA to suspend these safeguards. Add your voice to ask the EPA to please reverse this dangerous decision, and put these crucial pollution safeguards back into action.

2 — Check your rolodex to see who you know in Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Woodinville or Duvall. (Forget Paris or Washington, D.C. — the next climate battle is on the Eastside.)

Here in WA, we are just one state senator away from giving Governor Inslee the support he needs to pass climate protections. There is a special election this November in legislative district 45 where Manka Dhingra is poised to flip the district — and flip the state senate! Your small actions here can have an out-sized impact on climate change. Contact your Eastside friends… send them a link to Manka’s website: http://www.electmanka.com/ …ask them to commit to voting in this special election.

3 — Put Thursday evening 8/17 on your calendar. Congressman Derek Kilmer will host an advocacy training program in Bremerton.

Rep. Kilmer and guests will discuss ways we can stay politically active and productive under the current presidential administration.
