Climate Chaos and the Incarceration State Workshop

March 6, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

As climate crisis escalates, we must educate ourselves on the intersections, focusing our attention on the communities hit first and worst. In this workshop, we will discuss how prisons make up a critical frontline of climate change, and how collective liberation requires intentional work on the intersections of mass incarceration and ecological justice. We will explore the connections between the incarceration state and extractive industries, focusing on the toxic environments of prisons themselves, and the importance of solidarity and movement building. Through an anti-capitalist and anti-colonialist lens, we will learn about resistance to structural violence physically and psychologically. These concepts will be contextualized within local movements against the construction of a children’s jail in Seattle as well as broader resistance to
incarceration nationally and globally.

$10 suggested donation, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
