We have an extraordinary opportunity in Washington’s 5th Congressional District to defeat one of the most conservative, highest-ranking Republicans, Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Lisa Brown presents an exceptional opportunity because of her track record of winning elections in the district, a very effective record as a leader in the State Legislature, and her pivotal role in opening the state’s second public medical school at WSU Spokane.
Lisa made headlines in 1993 bringing her infant son on the floor of the House of Representatives. She challenged and defeated a Republican incumbent moving to the Senate in 1996. She quickly rose to Chair of the Ways and Means committee and ultimately became the first Democratic woman to be Senate Majority Leader. She was known for bold, yet collaborative leadership. Marriage equality, clean energy policy, and notable investments in the Spokane region occurred during her eight-year tenure as Majority Leader.
Cathy McMorris Rodgers is the only member of Washington’s delegation to vote for the Republican Health Care Plan, a wildly unpopular vote in Eastern Washington. She is anti-choice, demonstrates virtually no independence from the Trump Administration’s extreme policies, and her advocacy for the district has been weak in her decade in Congress.
Lisa’s record of accomplishment as a leader, especially in healthcare and higher education, and her background as a professor, WSU Spokane Chancellor, and economist, puts her in a strong position to draw sharp contrasts to McMorris Rodgers and win back the seat held for decades by Speaker Tom Foley.
This is our opportunity to send a powerful message to the Trump administration by turning the eastern third of Washington State blue!!!
