Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Japanese Americans

We will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the removal of Japanese Americans from Bainbridge Island.

Location:  Exclusion Memorial, 4195 Eagle Harbor Drive NE, Bainbridge Island

When:  March 30, 2022 11 am-noon

**Parking:  Drivers may drop off passengers in the Exclusion Memorial bus drop off area – watch for the sign.  Drivers may then continue on to the Park and Ride at Bethany Lutheran Church, 7968 Finch Road NE, Bainbridge Island to catch a complimentary round trip shuttle. Shuttle service starting at 10 am -11 am for the 6 minute ride and 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Name tags:  Please give us your name(s) of everyone who is attending – we’d like to make sure we have a nametag prepared.

The Japanese American Museum of Oregon representative is driving up to deliver a donated vintage US flag for survivors to sign – please stop by the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art to do this.  

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is hosting tea and cookies from 2-4pm. The installation in the museum’s lobby will feature a few materials and photographs from the museum’s collection about the Exclusion period. A recently restored original US Army poster instructing Japanese Americans to leave the Island will be on view from March 24 to March 30 only. The museum is walkable from the Museum of Art.
