Courageous Conversations on Race and the Labor Movement

How do we talk to members and coworkers who think differently than us (politics, racial and gender justice, membership, etc…)? Would you like to be a better leader in your workplace and a voice for change? These are such big issues – what can we actually do about it?

This participatory workshop is designed to give you practical tools for building union solidarity within your workplace. This 2 hour session will help you to engage in effective conversations to build unity and solidarity among those you work with. Learn more at wslc.org/race-and-labor.

Courageous Conversations on Race and the Labor Movement will be held Thursday May 19, 2022 from 5:45pm to 7:45pm, Interpretation and closed captioning are available upon request.

This will be a Hybrid Workshop with opportunities to participate in person or virtually. Food will be provided at the in person gatherings in Port Angeles and Silverdale. To participate virtually you will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access. The in-person gatherings may change to virtual if the COVID conditions change. We will make sure everyone is updated if they do.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

– Understand the impact of racism

– Talk about the importance of undoing racism in the workplace

– Connect with other union members in Kitsap, Jefferson, Clallam and Grays Harbor counties on topics related to:

    – Harassment at Work

    – History of racism as a tool to divide the working class

    – Building Solidarity across race and ethnicity
