KIND Fundraiser

June 30, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Please RSVP

Families Belong Together.

Our island community will come together, taking a stand against the cruel “zero tolerance” policy which separates babies and children from their families, and often houses children and their families in jail-like conditions for an indefinite period of time.

We will raise money to benefit a legal organization (KIND) sending volunteers to directly serve the needs of children in detention facilities in King and Pierce Counties.

Please join us in learning more about what is happening on the immigration policy/legal front, and how these policies are affecting families in the long-term.

Special guest speakers include:

Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community President Clarence Moriwaki will compare the timeless and timely relevance of the unconstitutional exclusion and incarceration of Japanese Americans in WWII with the current forced separation and detention of refugee families. Nidoto Nai Yoni – Let I Not Happen Again.

Jay Stratton,
Stratton Immigration, PLLC
will discuss and answer questions about family separation and the legal work being done to address it.

Gillian Ehrlich
DNP, ARNP, Certified in Functional Medicine
will discuss how trauma and inequality can have an impact on health across generations.

We’ll have an arts&craft table for kids and adults to make cards for the families in the detention center, and live music.

A donation table will be available to make contributions directly to KIND (Kids In Need of Defense) https://supportkind.org.
**UPDATE**
People who are already donating to KIND through the website at https://supportkind.org/donate/ may indicate in the “comment field” that this is in connection with the Bainbridge Island event. If donors would like to designate the donation to our local Seattle office, we ask that people designate “KIND Seattle Emergency Fund” in the “Tribute” section.
*****

As a community, let’s put everything aside for a moment to send a clear message that children belong with their families, and we have moved past a time when we will tolerate indefinite detention of humans.

Please join us. ❤
