This week Seattle Indivisible is dedicating RTT to Joe Colgan and the Downtown Peace Vigil.
Gold Star father and Army veteran Joe Colgan started what is referred to informally as “The Downtown Peace Vigil”. Joe lost his son Lt. Ben Colgan, in Baghdad, Iraq, November 1, 2003. In 2006, Joe started the vigil. Every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm Joe and a group of volunteers set up in front of the Federal Building talking to people about the virtues of pacifism and the dangers of the military industrial complex. They collect postcards every week and deliver them to the offices of both Senators Murray and Cantwell. Once a month Vets4Peace joins them to show support.
Seeing Joe there every week has been inspirational as he set an example of persistence through adversity.
This coming Tuesday will be Joe’s last Vigil and we’re looking to honor him!
ATTN: There will be no staff meeting this week, but please show up and honor someone who really deserves it.
