Stop Funding Tar Sands

October 2, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Tar sands is one of the dirtiest, most carbon-intensive fossil fuels on our planet.

Pipelines like Keystone XL, Line 3, and Trans Mountain are disastrous for people and the planet. They’re built on Indigenous lands without consent, endanger the safety of Indigenous women, and poison nearby communities.

Wall Street isn’t just complicit in these projects, it’s culpable.

At a time when the West Coast is burning with ash clouds that obscure the sun as far away as Pennsylvania it’s disgusting that fossil fuel companies keep building these toxic pipelines — and it’s downright despicable for big banks to profit from the devastation these pipelines bring.

Without huge loans from banks and insurance from insurance companies, these climate-wrecking, genocidal projects simply couldn’t be built. We know if we stop the flow of money, we stop the flow of oil.

On October 2nd Stop the Money Pipeline and its allies will hold actions outside the offices of major tar sands investors across the country. Join us online to hear from Indigenous frontline leaders, watch livestreams of the demonstrations, and take action calling on Wall Street to stop funding tar sands.

Rally Program & Lineup

The digital rally will be hosted by Simone Johnson of the Future Coalition.

We will be live streaming from actions at Liberty Mutual’s headquarters in Boston, Chase and BlackRock’s headquarters in New York, as well as from other actions across the country.

Throughout the rally, we will be inviting participants to take action: calling and writing decision-makers, signing the don’t bank with fossil funders pledge, and sharing the action far and wide on social media.

Confirmed speakers so far (with more to come!):

    • Kanahus Manuel with the Tiny House Warriors
    • Tara Houska with the Giniw Collective
    • Jasilyn Charger with Earth Guardians
    • Lucy Molina, a community activist leading the fight against the Suncor tar sands refinery in Denver, CO.

RSVP to get the latest information on the lineup as soon as it’s announced.
